Case study

Toshiba: supporting a multi-solution Sterling WMS estate

Toshiba runs several IBM Sterling WMS solutions that share a common base but have diverged over the years, each with its own codebase, WMS version and deployments. I provide ongoing support across that estate.

  • Data fixes and investigation across multiple site deployments
  • Code fixes and new feature development on diverging codebases
  • IBM Cognos 10 report development
  • Working across WMS 9.1, 9.2.1 and 9.5, with the matching JBoss and JDK toolchains

Going further with AI

To make support across that many codebases faster and more consistent, I built a governed AI agent swarm on top of the estate. It can read each solution's code, data model and configuration, while every change stays behind human approval.

Modernisation

Keeping Sterling consoles running on modern browsers

Older Sterling releases were built for Internet Explorer. As browsers moved on, many businesses faced an expensive upgrade just to keep their users productive.

I built a Sterling add-on that lets the Sterling application console run on Google Chrome, installed through Sterling's standard add-on mechanism, plus standalone clients for the administration tools. It buys estates time to plan upgrades on their own schedule.

Other Sterling tooling I've built

  • An add-on integrating Sterling with a proof-of-delivery platform
  • Shared utility libraries for Sterling extension development
  • Developer tooling to set up Sterling projects in modern IDEs
  • An Android RF client usable as a drop-in replacement for Sterling WMS terminals
